Dorothy is a Cairn Terrier mix girl that weighs about 12 pounds.

Mandy is a Flat Coat Retriever mix girl that weighs about 30-35 pounds. We found Mandy languishing in a local animal shelter. We do not know if she was an owner surrender or brought in as a stray. She is your basic black dog overlooked by so many people in a shelter environment. With low lit aisle and cages, shelters have a hard time showcasing black dogs. For us, it was hard to miss her beautiful smile & gentile spirit. Mandy is so eager to please. She cowers a bit when you approach her, but you can tell she wants so much to be loved. She basically begs for your attention in the quietest manner possible. It was only after we examined her back at the shelter, that we noticed the hard life Mandy had lead thus far.

A vet visit confirmed our fears. The first blow came when Mandy's heartworm test came back positive...and if this wasn't enough, the vet also found healing puncture wounds on her back, scabbing ears from fly bites, missing canine teeth (knocked out in some type of trauma leaving the roots behind) & only a partial tongue. Some people may have turned away at this point & decided this was too much to handle. After all, how could a damaged dog such as this ever be a good family companion. We know better.

Mandy will be treated for heartworms, receive the dental surgery she desperately needs and then be placed up for adoption. As the song goes, "Oh Mandy, you came and you gave without taking". But in all honesty, this is not entirely true. Mandy has already stolen our hearts! Won't you help us prove to Mandy that life can be wonderful! Mandy thanks you.

**Both need foster care before starting treatment.

We need your help!
Because The Pet Placement Center is a No-Kill organization, we often save pets from other shelters that euthanize. We rescue animals regularly from local animal controls and from individuals who can no longer care for their pets. We recently saved 6 heartworm positive (HW+) dogs. We have never had this many HW+ dogs at one time & are a bit overwhelmed.

Many shelters will euthanize a dog that is HW+. It is very treatable, but takes a lot of time & money. Each dog needs to go into foster care where he/she can have a calm & quiet environment while undergoing treatment for 6-8 weeks. It will cost the shelter $300-400 per dog depending on his/her size! These are all wonderful dogs & they deserve a chance to get healthy so they can finally be adopted into a home.

Rosie is a 3-4 year old German Shepherd mix girl that weighs ~ 45 pounds. She was rescued from a horrible situation of neglect. She was covered in fleas and ticks and grossly malnourished. She is safe now and we intend to keep it that way. She is already in foster care and starting treatment soon.

Morgan is a 4 year old Irish Wolfhound & Great Dane Mix girl that weighs ~ 85 pounds. She was only 63 pounds when she came to THAL. Morgan was part of a hoarding situation in Cleveland, TN. She is already adopted and will be undergoing her treatment at her new home.
Blackberry is a young Chihuahua mix boy that weighs ~ 6 pounds. He is undergoing treatment now and will be ready for his a new home soon. He is already in foster care.

Petal is 1.5 year old Aussie & Beagle mix girl that weighs ~ 20 pounds. She came in with her 3 puppies, Rosebud, Lenten Rose, & Bennett Rose who have now all been adopted. Petal has proven herself to be an excellent mother. Now it's her time for some much needed R&R. **Petal still needs a foster home.

Bogie is a 3 year old purebred MinPin boy & Bacall is a 2 year old purebred MinPin girl. They both weigh ~ 8 pounds. Both came from a hoarding situation in Cleveland, TN. Bogie is already in foster care and Bacall has been adopted and will be undergoing treatment at home.

Please consider making a donation & let us know if you would be interested in fostering any of these dogs while they undergo treatment. We will be with you every step of the way. The Tennessee Humane Animal League at the Pet Placement Center (www.THALPPC.com) is a registered non-profit 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax deductible. THANK YOU!!!
